About Rooted

Laura Bowman

RN, LCCE, CBC

The name “rooted” came from my desire to name my business after the concepts of nurturing, groundedness, confidence, and growth. Our bodies are equipped with everything it needs to give birth. I am often in awe of the choreographed dance of our hormones, the strength of our muscles, and the resilience of our tissues, all making childbirth possible. I believe the more we understand our bodies and these processes, the more confidence you will have going into childbirth.

Throughout my life, the opportunity to work with women has presented itself time and time again. From leading the women’s group on my college campus, to assisting women with mental illness in Nepal, to becoming the OB/GYN nurse at a primary care clinic. I am honored to have heard women’s stories, seen women’s strength, and to have held space for women during their most vulnerable moments. Becoming a mom myself has added and even deeper and more profound layer to this passion.

I decided to start Rooted Birth Support with all these women in mind and having seen first-hand the power of education. I clearly remember one group pregnancy class when a woman, who was a mother of four, said to me “Wow, no one has ever taken the time to explain these things to me. I feel like if I had known this for my other births, I would have had way less anxiety and understood better what was happening to me.” That comment inspired me to set off on this journey of childbirth education, to provide that opportunity to anyone who wants it.

Like the picture above of a fallen tree, nourishing and supporting the roots of new growth, I believe the support of our community, and the experience of birthing persons before us is so valuable. In a world where health disparities are very real and ill treatment of women/birthing persons is far too common, I truly believe that education is one tool to help empower women/birthing persons to have the safe, satisfying, and meaningful birth experiences they deserve.

My Promise to You

Childbirth and new parenthood can be such a vulnerable and overwhelming experience. If I can, in any small way, be a part in helping you to feel more confident and more empowered going into that process, than that is what I consider success as an educator

If you decide to take classes with me, I promise to treat you with kindness, to give you evidence-based information, and to hold your experiences, desires, and dreams with respect, no matter your race, religion, gender expression, or sexual orientation.
